Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP) is a UK-wide programme enabling businesses to improve their competitiveness, productivity and performance. A KTP achieves this through the forming of a Partnership between your business and an academic institution (such as university, further education college or research and technology organisation), enabling you to access skills and expertise to help your business develop.

KTP places high calibre graduates in businesses for a period of 12‑36 months (classic KTP) and from 10-40 weeks (shorter KTP), depending on the needs of the business and the desired outcomes. Graduates work in the company on a project which is core to the strategic development of the business and benefits them by imparting knowledge the company may not otherwise have access to.

On average, the business benefits that can be expected from a KTP are:
  • An increase of over £220,000 in annual profits before tax.
  • Creation of three new jobs.
  • An increase in the skills of existing staff

KTPs are part-funded by public money either directly from the Government or a sponsor (typically 50-70%), with the balance of the costs coming from the company partner. For further details about the scheme, please visit the KTP website
